With the rapid development of new energy vehicles, charging infrastructure has become an essential part of urban infrastructure. This includes various charging and swapping devices that provide power to electric vehicles, and charging cables are a crucial component.
Currently, most common charging cables on the market use a forceful push-button lock mechanism, making plugging and unplugging the cable cumbersome and laborious. Furthermore, they lack automatic unlocking at low currents, making it difficult to quickly remove the cable when needed.
To address this problem, a Norwegian company has devised a novel solution, ingeniously using a “servo” as a locking mechanism, rather than the traditional electromagnetic lock.
What is a servo?
A servo, a miniature servo system commonly found in drones, robots, and other devices, enables angular movement and status feedback. Here, it’s cleverly incorporated into the design of the charging plug. By incorporating a servo, the charging plug achieves more precise mechanical movement, maintaining its self-locking function while avoiding the difficulty of inserting and removing the plug due to the traditional forceful locking method.
Specifically, when the charging gun is inserted into the charging port, the servo starts working, driving the locking mechanism to move, achieving a self-locking function. This can keep the charging gun stable without external forces, avoiding charging interruptions caused by accidental collisions, etc. When the user needs to unplug the charging gun, simply press the unlock button on the charging gun, and the servo will drive the locking mechanism to unlock, allowing the charging gun to be easily pulled out of the charging port.
Furthermore, the servo is compact and easy to control, requiring only a simple signal to open and close, making installation extremely convenient. It also operates normally in temperatures as low as -30°C, eliminating the need to worry about freezing in cold climates, making it highly cost-effective.
In my opinion, this design fully demonstrates the potential of servos in everyday life. Beyond charging cables, imagine whether even more devices will leverage the power of servos to become more convenient and intelligent in the future. I look forward to seeing more innovative achievements in our lives.
